Paraguay's state power company Ande said construction of the 500kV Yacyretá-Ayolas-Villa Hayes transmission line has started.

Consorcio Ciegec (CIE-Somagec Guinea Ecuatorial) is carrying out the US$95.6mn two-year project which CAF, EIB and IDB are helping finance.

The 360km line will run alongside an existing line from the Yacyretá hydroelectric dam and help optimize and balance the flow of electricity from the Itaipú hydroelectric dam.
