Mexico publishes definitive results of 1st long-term power auction

Mexico's national energy control center (Cenace) published the results of the first long-term electric power auction, awarding contracts to 11 firms for renewable power generation projects.

The firms awarded contracts are Aldesa Energías Renovables, Consorcio Energía Limpia 2010, Energía Renovable de la Península, Enel Green Power México, Energía Renovable del Istmo II, Jinkosolar Investment, Recurrent Energy Mexico Development, Photoemeris Sustentable, Sol de Insurgentes, SunPower Systems México, and Vega Solar 1.

The winners presented 18 bids deemed to be successful, of the 227 offers received from 69 firms. The results also include the awarding of clean energy certificates (CECs).

The auction met the demand for 5.38mn CECs, or 84.4% of the total solicited by state utility CFE. In terms of generation, it covered 5.4TWh, or 84.9% of the total demand.

The initial auction result, published on March 29, was modified on March 30 when it became apparent that one of the bidders did not meet the process requirements, and a new selection process was carried out.

PROJECTS

The projects awarded are 11 solar parks and five wind farms, and which are the Guajiro 2 and Don José solar parks, in Guanajuato state, the Villanueva and Villanueva 3 solar parks, in Coahuila, Energía Renovable de la Península wind farm, in Yucatán, and the Aguascalientes Potencia I solar facility in Aguascalientes state.

Other projects awarded are the Chacabal and Chacabal II wind farms and the Ticul I solar facility in Yucatán, and Las Viborillas solar park in Jalisco state, as well as the Concunul, San Ignacio and Kambul solar parks and the Tizimín wind farm in Yucatán state, El Cortijo wind farm in Tamaulipas state, and the Sol de Insurgentes solar park in Baja California Sur.
