Paraguay awards flagship line's supervision contract

Paraguay's plans to reinforce electricity dispatch have moved forward with the award of the contract to supervise the 500kV Yacyretá-Ayolas-Villa Hayes transmission project.

The winner of the two-year contract to provide technical, social and environmental supervision services is Consorcio Cointec-Electroconsult, according to state power company Ande.

The other bidders were Consorcio de Consultores del Sur (Intec-Tecnolatina-Latinoconsult) and Consorcio Typsa y Asociados (Typsa-Diservel-Ingeneg).

Latin American development bank CAF will finance the 38.970bn guaraní (US$6.66mn) contract.

The 360km line was awarded in October and will run alongside an existing line from the Yacyretá hydroelectric dam and help optimize and balance the flow of electricity from the Itaipú hydroelectric dam.
