Permitting delays Costa Rica flagship hydro

There is no exact date to begin construction of the 650MW Costa Rican hydro project Diquis, according to state power company ICE head Carlos Obregón.

The official was speaking during a special national assembly committee meeting.

The environmental impact report has not been presented because it must include the indigenous consultation which has been a complicated process, an assembly release quoted Obregón as saying.

He added that despite the slow advance, close to US$150mn has been invested in the US$3bn project.

Diquis is one of three routes outlined in ICE's 2014-35 power generation expansion plan. The other two are renewables and LNG.
