Spain's REI secures environmental nod for Peru line

Peruvian environmental authorities have greenlighted a power transmission project that Madrid-based Red Eléctrica Internacional (REI) is developing in the southern regions of Tacna and Moquegua.

In a resolution, the energy and mines ministry's energy environmental affairs office DGAAE approved REI-controlled Transmisora Eléctrica del Sur 3's (Tesur 3) semi-detailed EIS for the Montalvo-Los Héroes transmission line and associated substations.

Global advancement of the 129km, 220kV link (see map) reaches 45.8%, according to the latest information from energy and mining investment regulator Osinergmin. The commercial operations startup date is May 2019.

Tesur 3 signed the 30-year concession with the government for the infrastructure in 2016.

Last month, another REI unit in Peru, Red Eléctrica del Sur, picked up the Tintaya-Azángaro transmission project.
