Imetame Energia said the plant forms part of its gas-to-wire strategy, which seeks to utilize offtake from nearby gas fields for electricity generation.

"A power plant based on Wärtsilä's technology showed to be the best solution to turn the gas into money," Imetame director Roberto Baptista said.

Prosperidade I is the first of three power plants being developed by Imetame in Bahia.
