Guyana, Trinidad ink energy deal

Guyana's natural resources and environment minister Robert Persaud and Trinidad and Tobago's energy minister Kevin Ramnarine have signed an energy cooperation MOU. Cooperation includes support for offshore exploration and equipment sourcing for energy and energy-related projects, Trinidad's energy ministry said in a statement. Other areas cover renewables such as hydro, solar, wind, tidal, wave, geothermal, biomass and biofuels, and the strengthening of public sector institutions. "This latest MOU is particularly important as Guyana is now in the process of strengthening their exploration and production facilities in the oil and gas industry, as well as fast-tracking the development of a large hydro electric power facility from the Amalia Falls project," the statement added. Parties under the two-year agreement will meet at least annually to review developments.
