Brazil iron ore exports grow in May
Brazil's iron ore exports rose 37.3% year-on-year in May to US$1.34bn, according to foreign trade department Secex.
The average price of Brazilian iron ore in May was US$39.5/t, up 17.6% year-on-year. In terms of volume, exports were up 17.0% to 34Mt.
But May flat-rolled steel exports slumped 46.8% to US$99.9mn, while volumes tumbled 42.9% to 180,800t. The price fell 6.78% to US$553/t over the 12-month period.
Exports of semi-manufactured iron and steel products slipped 4.4% to US$250mn, with volumes increasing 23.4% to 876,100t and prices falling 22.5% to US$285/t.
Brazil's aluminum exports jumped 96.3% to US$64.5mn in May. Volumes surged 146% to 41,800t, while prices were 20.1% lower at US$1,545/t.
