4G connections in Chile grew by 4.74mn or 57% in the 12 months to June to 13mn, according to the latest statistics from telecoms regulator Subtel.

UK systems integrator Logicalis has completed a US$20.2mn acquisition of Chilean ICT services and solutions provider Grupo Coasin.

COLOMBIA

Colombia's trade and industry watchdog hit leading telecoms operators Claro, Movistar, ETB and Tigo-Une with fines of 6.6bn pesos (US$2.12mn) for discrepancies in the speed provided and the speed promised in their residential broadband plans.

COSTA RICA

Luxembourg-based Millicom was authorized to acquire two cable TV operators in Costa Rica.

MEXICO

Telecoms regulator IFT completed the migration of a Mexico City pay TV channel operating on the 600MHz band to a new frequency on VHF, as it works to liberate the band for the deployment of 5G services in the near future.

At least 13 companies have signed service deals with Altán Redes' Red Compartida, Mexico's wholesale wireless telecom network, five months into its launch, according to IFT's records.

PERU

Peru's transport and communications ministry (MTC) has modified the country's frequency allocation plan to improve the use of resources for 4G and, eventually, 5G services.

BRAZIL

Telefónica, through its Vivo brand, has reached 100 municipalities with its fiber to the home (FTTH) infrastructure after extending it to Ijuí in Río Grande do Sul state and Sertãozinho in Sao Paulo state.

Local telco Oi will launch high-speed fiber optic broadband in 21 cities this month as the company strives to enter the residential broadband segment and reverse revenue losses and market share.
