Antel soft launches m-wallet services, full rollout expected in Jan

Uruguayan state-owned telecoms operator Antel has launched an m-wallet service in association with state bank Banco República (BROU), local paper El País reported.

The new service, dubbed "bit$," will allow users to make e-payments and purchase certain services, according to the report.

The service is slated to be fully launched on January 17, after a pilot program with 300 users.

Bit$ will be available for Antel's postpaid and prepaid subscribers. The company currently has some 2.1mn subscribers in the mobile telephony segment.

Prepaid subscribers looking to use Antel's m-wallet service will need to associate their numbers with a fixed line, according to the report.
