Cable & Wireless Communications (C&WC) will complete the first phase of investments in its data network in Panama by September, the company said in a statement.
As a result, C&WC will start offering HSPA+ technology initially in areas of high demand and eventually expand it to the rest of the country. This upgrade is part of the US$100mn in investments the company announced earlier this year to expand coverage and capacity.
The improvements in the company's networks will benefit customers using 2G and 3.5G equipment while the market adjusts to 4G technology with new equipment, C&WC Panama CEO Jorge Nicolau said.
C&WC Panama's priority is to support data services demand for more than 2.5mn customers, something which has jumped 340% from July 2010 to March 2011 in the prepaid customer base alone, according to the executive.
