GTD prepares new investments, Bogotá landing

Chilean telecoms group Grupo GTD is planning to invest US$50mn in the next 2-3 years to expand to Colombia, Chilean paper El Mercurio reported.

The expansion to Colombia will become effective with the deployment of a fiber optic network in Bogotá to serve the corporate sector, particularly Chilean companies with operations in the local market, such as retailers Cencosud and Falabella.

In addition, the company does not rule out acquisitions in the country, but within the corporate market and using the company's own resources, GTD founder Juan Manuel Casanueva was quoted as saying.

For next year, in Chile, the company is planning investments in external facilities, fiber optic networks throughout the country and a new data center, totaling US$50mn.


In related news, GTD's GTD Manquehue is said to be in negotiations with Chilean telecoms operator Entel aimed at possible joint operations, local paper Diario Financiero reported.

According to sources close to the process, about a year ago both companies were in similar negotiations, but which did not result in a deal.
