One Latin American mobile operator is currently testing California-based end-to-end wireless solutions provider Powerwave's (Nasdaq: PWAV) Active Array Antenna, company CEO Ronald Buschur told a conference call with investors without revealing the operator's name.
Two operators in North America and one operator in Europe are also conducting trials, he said.
The Powerwave multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) Active Array Antenna increases base station coverage up to 100% and reduces power consumption by 40%, cutting network providers' operational costs, the company said. Powerwave said the solution can be used for both 3G and LTE technologies.
Buschur highlighted that the Americas generated Q2 revenues of some US$80.2mn, or 47% of total revenue. In the year-ago period, the region generated US$52.5mn, representing 36% of total revenues.
Net sales in the second quarter were US$171mn, compared to US$145mn in 2Q10.
