Nearly 60% of homes with internet have ADSL

A total 59% of Argentine homes with internet have ADSL technology, according to a study by local telecoms consultancy firm Carrier y Asociados.

Cable modem technology represents 30% of homes with broadband services in the country, according to the study.

The local broadband market has a significant concentration with three providers, with presence in four out of five homes in the country. Argentina's top three providers are Telecom Argentina (NYSE: TEO), which operates under the Arnet brand; Telefónica de Argentina (NYSE: TAR); and Cablevisión, which operates through its Fibertel unit.

In ADSL, TEO and TAR account for 99% of the market, while Fibertel has 68% of total cable modem connections in the country, the study found.

According to the study, 83% of homes with broadband have at least one other telecom services provided by the same operator.
