Osiptel issues 2 resolutions to cut fixed-to-mobile calls

Peruvian telecoms watchdog Osiptel has issued two resolutions to regulate the rate of fixed-to-mobile telephony calls, Osiptel said in a release. The regulator decided to implement this new regulation as it considers the current rates too high. According to the regulator, the costs of fixed-to-mobile calls are among the most expensive across the region. Osiptel said the current rate is 0.76 soles (US$0.27). Mobile operators Claro, Movistar and Nextel have announced plans to cut fixed-to-mobile rates gradually, but the regulator said it considers these efforts insufficient. Osiptel also said the new costs would be determined after it adjusts incumbent operator Telefónica del Perú's rates, as this operator accounts for most fixed lines in the country.
