Satmex signs agreement with MNLA for broadband data service

Former state-run satellite company Satmex in Mexico has signed a multi-year and multi-transponder capacity contract for broadband data services throughout Latin America with satellite distribution and technical operations service provider Media Networks Latin America (MNLA), the companies said in a joint statement.

MNLA, a wholly owned subsidiary of Telefónica International, will initially utilize services through the Satmex 5 satellite, which is in orbital position 116.8 degrees W and provides services throughout the Americas.

Once Satmex launches the Satmex 8, expected in the third quarter of 2012, MNLA will migrate its operations from Satmex 5 to the new satellite.
