Former state-run satellite company Satmex in Mexico has signed a multi-year and multi-transponder capacity contract for broadband data services throughout Latin America with satellite distribution and technical operations service provider Media Networks Latin America (MNLA), the companies said in a joint statement.
MNLA, a wholly owned subsidiary of Telefónica International, will initially utilize services through the Satmex 5 satellite, which is in orbital position 116.8 degrees W and provides services throughout the Americas.
Once Satmex launches the Satmex 8, expected in the third quarter of 2012, MNLA will migrate its operations from Satmex 5 to the new satellite.
Media Networks Latin America provides data processing services, content generation and advertising sales to wholesale clients in Peru, Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Uruguay, Chile and Central America.
