Companies look to revive old Sonsonate bus terminal

Tuesday, July 29, 2003

Local bus companies and the municipal government of Sonsonate in western El Salvador are looking to revive the city's old bus terminal, which has been largely superseded by a new facility more than two years ago, La Prensa Grafica reported.

Most of the remaining bus companies that still operate at the old terminal belong to the terminal's shareholders. However, a new push by the local government, with the authorization of the transport vice-ministry (VMT), has meant that more companies have begun to come back to the old terminal since 2002.

Some 70 urban and inter-departmental lines now use the old terminal, compared to 50 at the start of 2002. The terminal's shareholders are putting together an infrastructure investment plan, which will include increasing the available commercial space, but no monetary estimate was specified.
