The number of vehicles using Colombia's highways increased 7.45% in 2003, according to national highways authority Invias, El País reported.
According to Invias, 32 million light vehicles used the national highway network in 2003, 2.5 million more than in 2002. The number of vehicles of all types rose by 4 million.
Invias management attribute the rise to increased security and programs such as Vive Colombia and Viaja por Ella, which saw more people using the road network.
The number of buses using the highways increased by almost 1.5 million from 25 million in 2002 to 26.5 million in 2003.
