Chile port secures EIA for reconstruction works
Chilean environmental regulator SEAapproved the environmental impact assessment (EIA) for the second stage of repairs at one of the berths at the Molo terminal of Iquique, in northern Tarapacá region (I).
State-owned port operator Empresa Portuaria Iquique (EPI), which presented the initiative, said the works will begin next month.
The terminal's No. 1 berth was damaged by an earthquake that hit Iquique in April 2014. The first stage of the repair works began after the quake.
The second stage also includes widening No. 1 berth and part of No. 2 berth, the improvement of breakwaters and port esplanade.
The second-stage contract has been awarded to consortium Copisa Chile, which is comprised of Constructora Mar Cantábrico and Copisa Constructora Pirenaica.
