Colombia kicks off works on Chia bypass
Colombia's infrastructure agency ANI has officially started works on the construction of the Chia bypass road in Cundinamarca department, which is part of the Bogotá northern access concession.
The bypass, which entails an investment of 116bn pesos (US$37mn), involves construction of a 3.4km four-lane road connecting the municipality of Chia with the Bogotá northern access highway, plus two 100m bridges over the Bogotá river, ANI said in a release.
Works are expected to take 18 months and the road is expected to improve connectivity for other nearby municipalities.
The Bogotá northern access concession involves a total investment of 1.2tn pesos. The works involve maintenance works on 53km of roadway, widening, construction of an additional 9.1km and the aforementioned Chia bypass.
The project is being carried out by Accenorte and is part of the 4G highways program.
Separately, the Bogotá city government is planning a second PPP for another section of the Bogotá access highway, which entails an investment of nearly 1.5tn pesos and is expected to be tendered by August.
