Mexico infra, water projects hit by new budget cuts
The 2016 budgets of Mexico's transport and communications (SCT) and environment ministries will be trimmed for a second time.
The government announced it will reduce spending by another 31.7bn pesos (US$1.67bn) this year to achieve its deficit reduction target, as international financial markets are being buffeted by Britain's decision in a referendum to leave the European Union.
Of the amount, 2.17bn pesos corresponds to the SCT, which will affect 1,607 infrastructure projects, many of them road works, according figures from the finance ministry.
The budget cut for the environment ministry will be 1.66bn pesos, which will affect 41 projects, many of them related to water treatment and agriculture, it said.
The first budget cut in February was of 32bn pesos, which affected various infrastructure and water projects.
The cuts impacted 53 projects and programs in the two areas, according to government information.
