Uruguayan pulp mill Montes del Plata aims to award a tender in March to perform logistics services that involve fluvial transport, the firm's communications manager, Carolina Moreira, told BNamericas.
The company launched a tender in December to hire a company that will be responsible for building and handling riverboats that will transport wood and woodchips for the pulp mill.
So far, local companies and a number of firms from countries such as Chile, Germany, Estonia and Sweden have submitted proposals, Moreira said. All bids are expected to be submitted by month-end, so that a contract can be signed in March.
The riverboats will dock at a fluvial-maritime port that will serve Montes del Plata and is expected to begin partially operating during Q3, the company's general manager, Erwin Kaufmann, told BNamericas in a previous interview.
The port will serve the company's US$1.9bn Montes del Plata pulp mill project, which will be located in Colonia department's Punta Pereira district.
Montes del Plata is a JV between Chile's Celulosa Arauco, a division of fuel distributor Copec, and Finland's Stora Enso.
