Paraguay again postpones bid opening for BRT corridor

Paraguay's public works and communications ministry (MOPC) postponed the bid opening date for the construction of the first stretch of a bus rapid transit (BRT) corridor in capital Asunción until October 6.

Bid opening for the 87bn guaraní (US$15.4mn) contract had been scheduled for September 15, after already being delayed four times. Originally, when the tender was launched in April, the date was set for May 23, the bidding documents show.

The section that is being tendered entails a 3.1km central corridor section of the trunk system, which runs between the streets Tte. César Díaz Pefaur and Luis Alberto de Herrera (see map below).

Another two stretches of the project are currently under construction by Mota-Engil, which was awarded the contract for sections 2 and 3 last year for 300bn guaraníes, covering 11.4km between San Lorenzo and the port of Asunción.
