In Brief: Brasilprev AUM surges in 3Q17

Brazilian private pension plan provider Brasilprev saw its assets under management (AUM) climb to 228bn reais (US$70.5bn) in in the third quarter, up 23.4% year-on-year.

"The expansion of our assets under management and the maintenance of our market leadership are the reflection of several factors, such as the solidity of Brasilprev, good consultancy and the launch of new funds," said Mariane Bottaro, the company's strategic management superintendent.

The country's private pension sector as a whole is seeing strong demand, driven by an aging population and intensive efforts by the government to approve a pension reform, which has placed the problems of the current public pension system firmly in the spotlight.
