Interest in Mexico's round 3.2 rises

The number of companies seeking to participate in Mexico's onshore licensing round 3.2, scheduled for September 27, has risen to eight with Mexican Galem Energy entering the pre-qualification process.

Other players that have started the prequalification process are Geopark, Gran Tierra México Energy, Jaguar, Pemex, Quimica Apollo, Tecpetrol Internacional and Tonalli Energía, and all but Quimica Apollo have paid for access to the data room.

Galem said that it enjoys the support of Miguel Alemán Magnani, grandson of former Mexican president Miguel Alemán Valdés.

The company started the pre-qualification process for deepwater round 2.4, but did not participate in the auction. Instead, it took part in shallow water round 3.1 in consortium with Malaysian operator Sapura Energy.

Round 3.2 will offer 37 onshore blocks and will be held simultaneously with unconventional round 3.3, with nine areas.
