Mexico's economy ministry has begun an investigation into alleged dumping of seamed, stainless steel tubes from Taiwan, local newspaper El Norte reported.
The ministry published the resolution in Monday's federal register. The investigation is at the request of Mexican steel tube makers Techtube de Mexico and Cominox, which applied to the ministry in January.
The steel tube companies say the Taiwanese imports have damaged the local industry.
The ministry will study prices from October 2000 to March 2001, and if it finds evidence of dumping will have the power to apply anti-dumping tariffs and import quotas.
