ArcelorMittal restarts Mexico iron ore mine

Steelmaker ArcelorMittal México restarted operations at its El Volcán iron ore mine in Mexico.

The Sonora state mine had been suspended for almost a year, CEO Víctor Martínez Cairo said in a state government release.

The move also involves the restart of operations of a concentrator plant in Ciudad Obregón and shipping from the Guaymas port, with the first shipment expected in February, the CEO added. The mine will employ about 500 workers.

As well as El Volcán, ArcelorMittal México has the Las Truchas mine and the Peña Colorada JV with Ternium. The company has six steel facilities in three Mexican ports.
