Mexico bans Odebrecht from public contracts
Mexico's public administration ministry has banned two subsidiaries of Brazilian company Odebrecht from inking contracts with state-owned firms and public entities that receive federal funds, according to the official gazette.
Each subsidiary – Odebrecht Ingeniería y Construcción Internacional de México and Construtora Norberto Odebrecht – was also fined 543mn pesos (US$30.1mn).
The ban remains in place for two and a half years and will have to be enforced by the attorney general's office, federal administration agencies and entities, as well as state-owned enterprises and their subsidiaries.
Two legal representatives of the company were also banned from signing contracts with the government for the next two years and three months, and each was ordered to pay a 1.26mn-peso fine.
Two bans had already been imposed on one of the subsidiaries, but both were suspended after the entity appealed the decision.
