Mexico's Maxcom sells 72 telco towers
Mexican telco Maxcom, which operates around 1% of the country's fixed lines, sold 72 telecoms towers to local telecoms infrastructure group MXT for some 197mn pesos (US$10.7mn). The deal includes a 20-year leaseback agreement, as part of its strategy to increase presence in the corporate market.
Maxcom offers IP-based last-mile services mostly to companies in Mexico City, Monterrey, Guadalajara and other industrial cities. The company has announced a strategic refocusing toward the commercial segment, as it winds down its residential unit and reduces the share of its wholesale segment in its revenue mix.
"This transaction represents and important step in the execution of the strategic plan, whose main focus is to widen its presence in the entrepreneurial sector," Maxcom said in a message to Mexico's stock market. The money, it added, also fortifies its financial position to continue with its investment plan.
The company reported revenues of 2.26bn pesos in 2017, with 34% of that coming from commercial operations and 50% from its wholesale business.
