Correction: Minas Conga

Newmont Mining has asked us to make it clear to readers that the Minas Conga gold-copper project at its Yanacocha gold mine in Peru does not contain oxide deposits.

"The two deposits are not oxide as are the current Yanacocha operations, yet not sulfidic ore as seen in the Nevada refractory gold ores. It is the same type of mineralization as Batu Hijau [in Indonesia] which requires a copper sulfide flotation process," Newmont said.
