IN BRIEF: DNPM toughen rules on mining dams
Brazil's mining production department DNPM has toughened the rules on the monitoring of mineral tailings dams in the country.
A resolution published in the official gazette on Friday creates a national registry of tailings dams and an integrated management system for mining dams' safety. The department also established new compliance rules for the dams.
The move is connected with the pellet-maker Samarco deadly tailings dam collapse in November 2015.
