LatAm rig count up to 384 in Jul

The total number of rigs operating in Latin America rose to 384 in July 2005 compared to 380 in June, according to US oil services company Schlumberger's website.

The total number of offshore rigs rose to 89 from 86, while the number of onshore rigs increased to 295 from 294.

The total year-to-date average through July 2005 was up 15% to 378 compared to 329 in the same period of 2004.

The number of offshore rigs in the year-to-date comparison remained steady at 83, while the number of onshore rigs was up 20% to 295.

The number of rigs active in the following countries in July was as follows: Argentina, 81 (all onshore); Bolivia, 4 (all onshore); Brazil, 41 (28 offshore, 13 onshore); Colombia, 25 (all onshore); Ecuador, 14 (all onshore); Guatemala, 2 (all onshore); Mexico, 122 (42 offshore, 80 onshore); Peru, 6 (1 offshore, 5 onshore); Trinidad, 8 (5 offshore, 3 onshore); and Venezuela, 81 (13 offshore, 68 onshore).
