Brazil's environmental watchdog authorizes Statoil drilling

Brazil's environmental authority Ibama has greenlighted Statoil's drilling campaign in the BM-S-8 license off the southeast coast.

The exploration block is home of the Carcará pre-salt prospect, one of Brazil's main oil and gas discoveries.

Valid for four years, authorization includes the drilling of seven wells in addition to a short-term formation test in the Santos basin offshore block.

Drilling will be carried out with the West Saturn drill ship, chartered from service provider Seadrill.
