Peru's executive has presented a bill to congress to promote development of decentralized hydrocarbons transport systems and an ethane-based petrochemicals industry in the south of the country.
The proposed legislation aims to extend natural gas supply beyond capital Lima and Sur Chico, the latter of which spans Cañete province in Lima region and provinces Chincha, Pisco, Ica, Palpa, Nazca and Marcona in Ica region.
The petrochemicals component seeks to take advantage of the ethane contained in natural gas, according to the bill.
The initiative's authors propose using the ethane found in the gas that comes from Camisea block 88 and used for power generation, VNG and in homes and businesses. The ethane content is 10% and could be used for petrochemicals development and increase the value of gas eight-fold.
