Mexico brings in navy to monitor E&P

Mexico's hydrocarbons commission (CNH) and the naval ministry have signed an agreement to use the navy's technology to monitor exploration and production (E&P), and optimize human and economic resources.

The agreement establishes coordination mechanisms, information exchange and the carrying out of joint actions. It was signed by naval minister Vidal Francisco Soberón Sanz and CNH president Juan Carlos Zepeda Molina, according to a joint statement.

The CNH will launch a monitoring and satellite-tracking center to supervise E&P activity and monitor potential deviation by private companies engaged in oil and gas contracts from already approved plans.

Currently, the CNH supervises 130,346km2 of onshore and offshore areas, of which 27,676km2 correspond to 50 contracts awarded in the auctions held so far. The next contracts will be awarded on January 31, 2018.
