Results from the 2D program will be added to Spectrum's Equatorial Margin library, which already boasts 110,000km of 2D and 11,300km2 of 3D data, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.

"Data is being acquired with a 10,000m cable with continuous recording to enable extended recording lengths necessary to understand the basin architecture," the statement said.

According to Spectrum, the survey will increase knowledge of the area surrounding the Pitu deepwater discovery in the Petrobras-operated POT-M-855 block.

It added that results of the survey would be available in the fourth quarter.

Brazil is expected to stage three oil rights licensing rounds this year as the government capitalizes on rebounding crude prices.
