Vale LatAm's fifth biggest gainer

Brazilian mining giant Vale's market cap rose 72.9% to US$27.3bn as of August 25 compared to US$15.8bn at the end of 2015, making it the fifth most valuable publicly traded company in Latin America and the one whose value rose the fifth most in the period.

Federal oil giant Petrobras was the biggest gainer, rising in value by US$30bn or 116% to US$55.9bn, according to figures compiled by consultancy firm Economatica.

Bank Bradesco, beverage giant Ambev and bank ItauUnibanco came second, third and fourth in terms of higher value, with gains of 23.1bn reais, 22.1bn reais and 21.3bn reais, respectively, Economatica said. All are Brazilian.

Brazil's Santander BR, Banco do Brasil, Telefonica Brasil, Cielo, Eletrobras, BB Seguridade and BM&FBovespa; Mexico's Peñoles; Peru's Credicorp; and Colombia's Ecopetrol completed the list of the 15 firms in Latin America with the biggest increases in value.
