Paraguay considers three cable car lines

The Paraguayan government is conducting feasibility studies on a proposal from Austrian firm Doppelmayr to build a cable car system in capital Asunción that would have three lines.

Following a meeting with representatives from the firm, deputy transport minister Pedro Britos said that Doppelmayr's proposal included an offer to work towards a bilateral deal between the local government and the Austrian company in order to secure the necessary investment, which would be between US$15mn and US$22mn per kilometer, the foreign affairs ministry said in a release.

The cost presented included expenses for studies, civil works, major construction works and equipment.

Britos added that the foreign affairs ministry was willing to work towards sealing the cooperation deal. He also said that the definitive cost of the project will be determined after that deal is signed.

The three lines would be San Lorenzo-Asunción, the southern access-Central Asunción, Jardín Botánico-Central Asunción.

The previous day, Britos also assisted with Doppelmayr's presentation to the public works committee of the lower house of congress, where he said that President Mario Abdo "is one of the people most interested in the project," according to a separate release from the legislative body.
