Paraguay to speed up construction of BRT corridor
Paraguay's public works minister Ramón Jiménez told local radio Monumental that the government wants to accelerate the construction of sections 2 and 3 of Asunción's first BRT corridor, and that he will summon the leadership of contractor Mota Engil to discuss appropriate strategies.
The contract for both sections was awarded in 2016 with a reference budget of some 300bn guaraníes (US$57mn). Construction started that same year.
In addition to building an 11.4km corridor between San Lorenzo and the port of Asunción, the contract includes replacing a 50-year old water pipeline, as well as installing storm and sewerage drains, which causes delays, Jiménez stated.
"Metrobus is a public health project, beyond a public transportation project, because most issues are being caused by the installation of the sewerage drains, as there are no drains in that area," he told the radio station.
