Beverage giant Coca-Cola has launched its 2.5 liter bottle made with 20% of recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) content.
By 2014, the company expects all PET packaging in its portfolio to be produced from recycled PET, saving some 60,000t of virgin PET resin, technology and logistics VP Rino Abbondi said in a statement.
According to Coca-Cola, the recycled PET is the first of its kind to be approved for use as food grade packaging by Brazilian health inspection agency Anvisa.
Brazil has one of the world's highest levels of PET recycling, at 55.6% of all PET packaging, added the firm.
