IN BRIEF: Paraguay's Petropar under fire over LPG

Paraguay's state oil company Petropar claimed its entry into the LPG bottling business does not violate the trademark law or any other legal provision in the country.

The NOC made the announcement in response to possible legal action by representatives of fuel distributors association Dicapar.

"Through threats of legal action, as well as the agreement between companies of the private sector to produce a shortage of the product, in a clear abuse of a collective dominant position, all that is sought is to exclude Petropar from the market in order to maintain current prices," said the company, which added that cylinder owners are free to choose where to purchase LPG.
