Cosiplan approves US$13.7bn infrastructure plan

South American infrastructure and planning council Cosiplan has approved 31 priority integration projects that envision US$13.7bn in investment from 2012-22.

The 10-year plan is aimed at promoting physical integration among the 12 member states of the Union of South American Nations (Unasur), which met in Brasília this week, Brazil's planning ministry said in a release.

Priority projects include work involving logistics, ports, waterways, railroads, highways, bridges, tunnels, power transmission lines, airports, gas pipelines and multimodal transport systems throughout the region.

The council also approved next year's work plan, a 2012-22 strategic action plan and created new workgroups, including one to increase support from national and regional development banks.
