Santa Catarina readies tender under US$505mn sanitation plan

Brazil's Santa Catarina state water utility Casan will launch a tender by May which falls under a 1.6bn-real (US$505mn) water and sanitation plan contemplating a total of 45 projects in 31 cities and towns, a spokesperson told BNamericas.

"Currently, five projects worth total of 351mn reais are being carried out in state capital Florianópolis alone. This is probably the largest investment package for a single city of this size in Brazil right now," the official said.

As for next month's tender, it is valued at 107mn reais and calls for expanding sewerage services in the city. Both companies and consortiums – if led by a Brazilian firm – will be eligible, he added.

The project involves deploying sewage collector pipelines in the neighborhoods of José Mendes and Morro da Lagoa da Conceição, and wastewater outfalls in the neighborhoods of Itacorubi, Parque São Jorge, Jardim Anchieta, Córrego Grande, and Pantanal de Carvoeira.

Once completed, it will work hand in hand with Florianópolis's Insular treatment plant which has a treatment capacity of 459l/s. Approximately 75,000 residents should benefit.

Meanwhile, proposals for the other four projects have already been handed in.

The largest is for an 84.5mn-real sewer system work in the neighborhoods of Ingleses and Santinho, which will have a treatment plant able to handle 105l/s. Civil works should start in April and the contract has been awarded to the Trix-Infracon consortium.

Meanwhile, Infracon is on its own also carrying out a 34.8mn-real sewer treatment plant for Casan's sewer system project in the neighborhood of Campeche, according to the spokesperson.

Wrapping up the list is a 78.5mn-real project to build a sewer system for the neighborhoods of Saco Grande, João Paulo, and Monte Verde – and a 20.5mn-real initiative to expand the Área Continental sewer system serving the neighborhoods Capoeiras and Abraão. Proposals are currently being evaluated.

OTHER WORKS

Casan is also planning to call bids for a 36.5mn-real sewerage work in the city of Videira by early April, Casan engineer Fábio Krieger told BNamericas earlier this week.

The utility's goal is to increase the sewerage service coverage ranking of Santa Catarina to number 5 by 2019. Today it is ranked 18 of Brazil's 26 states (and one federal district).
