Santa Fe governor and YPF discuss San Lorenzo refinery
The governor of Argentine Santa Fe province Miguel Lifschitz has met with YPF chairman Miguel Ángel Gutiérrez to discuss the situation of the stricken San Lorenzo refinery.
Courts ruled to freeze parent company Oil Combustible's assets at the request of tax agency AFIP due to 900mn pesos (US$44.6mn) in unpaid taxes, a debt which rises to 8bn pesos when accounting for the firm's improper retention of fuel transfer tax. Due to this freeze, the plant halted operations at the end of February.
"We take it as a positive that ... YPF is interested and willing to participate and collaborate," said Lifschitz.
"YPF is very familiar with what is happening, they have been analyzing the situation with the San Lorenzo refinery, although they cannot intervene until the judge rules regarding how we should move forward with the situation," he said.
"The plan to manage the situation is made up of two stages: a transitory one to try to keep the refinery and the outlets functioning and avoid the loss of jobs and environmental damage. And, on the other hand, a more substantial solution according to how the legal case progresses," he concluded.
