Petroecuador prepares B2B platform for end-October

Ecuador's state oil company Petroecuador ( and its suppliers are developing a B2B project designed to carry out the company's entire tendering process online, Petroecuador Internet administrator Gustavo Palacios told BNamericas.

The portal should be ready for end-October, he said.

The B2B portal will let bidders obtain information to qualify for tenders, present their offers and participate in tenders online, thereby "enabling us to name the suppliers that will participate, detail the amounts offered and announce which company will administer the project," Palacios said.

Dubbed the Suco project, the initiative will require a US$50,000 investment, which will eventually yield significant savings in Petroecuador's operating budget. The state does not have an exact estimate of savings, however, he said.

Suco has already been developed and implemented to the extent that suppliers can go online to view tender timetables and results, Palacios said.

What remains now is the digital registration process, so that Suco can take on an interactive B2B characteristic. "Digital registration will establish more trust in the tendering process, so that only qualified companies can enter," he said. To this end Petroecuador has been in talks with e-certifier Vera Pintana y Asociados, he said.

Petroecuador launched its website in 1999 with a US$56,000 investment. The site uses Linux technology and offers information about the company and the petroleum industry, as well as national and international tender processes.
