Roundup: Intel, IBM, Smart Solutions, Aktio

US chip manufacturer Intel (NYSE: INTC) has named Steve Long as general director for Latin America, Intel said in a statement.

Long has worked in Intel for more than 10 years, and previously held posts in Mexico and Brazil.

The executive has a degree in arts from Tulane University and an MBA from the University of Texas.

Brazilian real estate company Brookfield Incorporaçoes has tapped IBM (NYSE: IBM) for a software consulting project, IBM said in a statement.

IBM helped Brookfield implement software from SAP (NYSE: SAP).

IBM was also responsible for hosting the SAP environment and post-deployment support.

Colombian consumer goods company Quala has adopted software from US firm Smart Solutions, the latter company said in a statement.

Quala deployed Smart Solutions' trends forecasting solution SmartForecasts, which was implemented with Quala's ERP.

Quala manufactures and sells 27 brands including powdered beverages and snack foods.

Latin American IT products distributor Aktio, a unit of Brazilian IT firm Grupo Açao, will host a conference on innovation in the government sector, Aktio said in a statement.

The event will take place on November 16 in Buenos Aires, and will focus on ways to use technology to modernize municipal, provincial and federal governments.
