Peru exported some US$20mn in software and IT services in 2010, up from US$16mn in 2009, Peruvian IT chamber Apesoft general manager Yosif Humala told BNamericas.
In 2010, the sector is expected to have moved roughly 10% more than the US$160mn sold in 2009, but "we are still closing last year's figures," the executive said. "The software sector in Peru saw a recovery from the crisis. The sector is growing in line with the country's economy."
Peru's main export markets for software and IT services are Andean countries, Spain and the US, with Andean markets alone accounting for some 30% of total software exports, he added.
Apesoft is also working to develop new markets for local software products, such as Chile, Mexico and Central American markets.
The sector currently employs some 7,000 people, Humala said.
