Facebook plans to open an office in São Paulo, Brazil, making it the company's first in Latin America, news source Baguete reported.
The unit will be headed by Facebook Latin America VP Alexandre Hohagen. The executive has been Facebook's Latin America VP since February, after leaving Google (Nasdaq: GOOG), where he held a similar position.
"Our presence in the region will allow the Facebook team to work directly with the brands in the creation and completion of more social campaigns and experiences, strongly impacting our business," Hohagen was quoted as saying.
Besides Brazil, Facebook has international offices in Germany, Australia, Canada, Spain, France, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, Singapore and Sweden.
In São Paulo, Facebook says it will invest in a very highly skilled team to maintain growth.
The social network has some 25mn users in Brazil and 750mn worldwide.
