The Brazilian government is studying Taiwanese electronics producer Foxconn's plan to invest US$12bn in the country to manufacture Apple's iPad, media outlet Infobae reported.
While on an official visit to China, Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff reportedly received a proposal from Foxconn to manufacture the iPad.
The reports were confirmed by science and technology minister Aloizio Mercadante, who said Apple aimed to produce its tablet in the country. Currently, Apple outsources iPad production to China through Foxconn.
Foxconn has two manufacturing facilities in Brazil in São Paulo state.
