Together with the Chilean government, local phone directory company Publiguías will provide up to 20,000 free websites to small and medium enterprises in a public-private digital inclusion campaign, the company announced on its website.
The only requirement for an SME to be eligible for the project - which offers a platform for companies to promote and showcase their products - is that it be formally established in Chile and registered with tax agency SII.
The move is part of a government push for the creation of 250,000 new businesses per year, said deputy economy minister Tomás Flores.
Publiguías will design and host the website and register the domain for one year.
